Working off the mystery containers idea from a few months ago, we decided to make a snowball container activity for our math stations. The class has been working on estimations, and we thought we could continue in January with snowballs. We'll fill our containers with varying amounts of white pom-poms (snowballs). The children will work on filling in estimates on their worksheet, then opening the containers and actually counting the snowballs. ( We'll also encourage the math language of my estimate was more, less, or equal to the actual amount. )
